Virtual Career Fair for International Students

Many international students studying in the United States find the search for jobs and internships to be challenging. The Clarkson Career Center is pleased to announce that our international students now have the opportunity to connect with interested employers through a virtual career fair just for international students.

Sponsored by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), the NACE International Students Virtual Career Fair is FREE and open to international students at schools that hold NACE membership who:

·         Wish to return to their home country for full-time or internship/co-op opportunities.

·         Are currently pursuing one-year Optional Practical Training (OPT) and/or long-term opportunities in the United States.

·         Are currently pursuing summer Curricular Practical Training (CPT) internships in the United States.

The fair opens to students on February 18 and runs through May 16. Through the fair, you’ll have access to interested employers and their full-time, internship, and co-op opportunities.

The United Illuminating Company Engineering Scholarship

As a recipient of one of the UI scholarships, you will enjoy the benefits for one academic year. The program provides a $2,500 scholarship and a ten week paid internship to each recipient. You must also complete a ten week internship at our facility in Shelton, CT in summer 2008.

Candidates who successfully complete the internship and receipt of a scholarship in no way guarantees future full time employment, however award recipients would be given consideration for opportunities.

Applications will be provided to the college /university engineering department representative. Applications must be completed and returned to the department of engineering office by February 29, 2008. In addition to the application, you should submit a resume, full transcript, and essay explaining why you should receive the scholarship and your interest in the utility industry.

RESUME PROCESS CLARIFICATION
CAREER CENTER Marty Ford, Director

To clear up any confusion regarding the resume process being used by the Career Center, I want to provide this clarification for all students.

A) All resumes that were in KnightLink prior to January 1, 2008 CAN BE uploaded in StudentKnightLink WITHOUT review by the Career Center. You, the resume owner, need to access your account in StudentKnightLink to move your resume from KnightLink (the version used during the Fall of 2007).

B) Any resumes posted to StudentKnightLink prior to January 1, 2008 DO NOT NEED TO BE REVIEWED by the Career Center if you are making changes to what is already posted.

C) All NEW resumes that are posted to StudentKnightLink after January 1, 2008 need to be reviewed by the Career Center prior to being posted. This review is done to ensure that your resumes meet the professional requirements of the employers recruiting Clarkson students.

D) Please submit a hard copy of your resume to the front desk at the Career Center where it will be reviewed and you will be notified via email no later than 72 hours from the date of submission that it is ready to be picked up. When you pick it up, you will be told if corrections are needed, if it is ok to be posted or if you need to talk with a counselor about your resume.

Again, this process is being used to ensure that you have the most professional document possible for potential job searches. We have received feedback from employers that our resumes do not always meet their standards so it is important that we represent the best possible image.

If you have questions about the process or if you are wondering if your resume fits categories A or B please contact the Career Center at X6477.
