Applying to the Program

Schools to which materials were mailed (usually January of each year) should use original application materials for their final nominees. New schools should utilize the materials provided for downloading below. No more than two applications for Horizons I and one for Horizons II programs are permitted for review from any one school. Additional nominations may result in all nominations being discredited.

Application Material

Horizons I will accept approximately 140 participants with 70 young women scheduled for each of the two weeks. Application packets are provided directly to more than 500 schools throughout New York State, however, new schools — in or out of state — are welcome to request materials. Please contact the program to let them know you wish to be added to the data base for future mailings.

Horizons II will accept approximately 100 participants with 50 scheduled for each of the two weeks. Priority for inclusion in Horizons II will be given to those candidates who participated in Horizons I and continue to qualify for the program. Materials will be mailed directly to these participants at their homes provided the address from Horizons I continues to be valid. If the participant has moved, she should submit a new address to the program before January of the year following her Horizons I participation.

Participating schools are permitted to nominate one eighth grader who did not participate in Horizons I. Such nominees will be selected to fill available slots in Horizons II that may result from attrition.
